A while ago, I was chatting to my good friend Lea about career changes and why people make them. We thought that job satisfaction, "following your dreams", money and lifestyle ranked pretty high on the list of reasons why people want to make a change. I know that lifestyle ranked high on our lists!!
The idea of making the sacrifice now by working stressful, uninteresting but well paid jobs in order to enjoy an early retirement 20 years later didn’t really appeal. Why wait?!!!
Lea, of course, is now jet setting round the world as an L.I.P.
In between thoroughly enjoying herself in the warm Caribbean waters, she successfully coaches her clients around the world to help their businesses achieve a head start in technology, blogging and marketing.
But mostly, she just has fun, which I think is her mission in life!!
Now, I may be speculating here but perhaps it’s because Lea and I have each lost someone close in our lives that we realised that life is more than a grey suit, a daily commute and a desk job. Not that there is anything wrong with those things.
In our case, they just acted as a catalyst for change. A change for the better, in my opinion, even though it certainly hasn’t been a bed of roses.
We still need a daily routine, which is vital (even though we hated our last ones). We still need the systems and processes that help run our businesses smoothly, and we still indulge in some mindless yet addictive social gossiping by our virtual coffee machines! There’s a book in here somewhere…J
So far it’s been very challenging, stimulating, frustrating and disheartening at times and fun. It’s all that I asked for and if the present is anything to judge the future by then I’ll continue to be happy!
